The Buzz

"...Has the grandstanding vocal resources to be superbly heroic and tragic...Tanner was in total command"
-Classical Source

"Carl Tanner gave his all to portraying a Calàf of uncompromising integrity and romantic magnetism"
-Voix des Arts

"Carl Tanner’s heroic, ringing quality well serves the role of Samson"
-The Stage

"Tenor Carl Tanner was a brilliant, heroic Radamès"
-Charles T. Downey, Ion Arts

"Much has been made of the fact that Carl Tanner (Wolf Trap Class of 1983), who sang Radames, is a former truck driver and bounty hunter from Northern Virginia; a movie is even in the works about his life. He’s also an honest, straightforward singer: If his performance as Radames tended more toward bluster than finesse, it came straight from the heart, resounding tones and all, and took on a kind of crude grace as it progressed."
-Anne Midgette, The Washington Post

"Clarion-voiced tenor Carl Tanner, thrillingly raw and vibrant as the doomed proles in Tabarro"
-Rupert Christiansan, The Telegraph

"But the outstanding discovery was Carl Tanner who, as the card-fixated Hermann, detonated each high note with bright, daring accuracy and delivered this maniacal role with exactly the right reedy, nasal Russian-style tone and lumbering physicality. (How to pay a man a compliment.) By virtue of the ingenious patronage system of Grange Park, you can sponsor a singer or even, up to a point, his body parts – starting at £1,500. Tanner is divided into three sponsorable parts: head, torso and legs. As Salome might have said, bags I the head."
-Fiona Maddocks, The Guardian
